‘Hunt and Learn’ programs teach basics
DNR offers classes to adult, youth novice hunters
From Staff Reports
SOCIAL CIRCLE – Deer, squirrel, turkey, quail, rabbit – all huntable species in Georgia. But, do you know how to hunt them?
Georgia Hunt and Learn programs provide an educational experience targeted to those with little to no hunting experience, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.
The Georgia Hunt and Learn programs provide exceptional instruction from qualified teachers. With workshops available for both adults and youths, participants will discover everything from the basics to learning how to care for harvested game. The weekend additionally provides guided hunt opportunities.
Utilizing Hunt and Learn programs, DNR offers one- to three-day programs that educate participants about hunting and conservation, along with an opportunity to hunt a specific game animal. Participants will have the chance to learn hunting tactics, game identification and hunter safety from experts. Hunt and Learn courses are geared toward the new hunter that wants a safe and educational learning environment. Both youth and adult programs are available to accommodate a wide range of ages.
Half-Day 101 Courses are available for hunters who can’t do a whole day. The half-day “101” classes have educational and live fire components focused on a specific game animal. Dates for these courses will be announced soon.
Registration for most Hunt and Learns is now open. Adults and children (16 and older) must obtain the appropriate hunting licenses for the species being hunted.
