In high school football, the number 99 is an important statistic.

Ninety-nine is, mathematically, the longest kickoff or punt return possible. A kickoff or punt that crosses the goal line is automatically dead, so the longest return possible, statistically speaking, has to start at the 1.

Lee County’s Jammie Robinson had just such a return Friday in the Trojans’ 33-0 victory over Peach County. He took the second-half kickoff right in front of the Lee County goal line, found an open running lane along the Peach County sideline, and took the ball 99 yards for a touchdown.

Westover’s Cameron Bergeron also joined the 99-yard club last week. He had a 99-yard interception return in the Patriots’ 26-6 win over Monroe that snapped Westover’s four-game losing streak in the Albany city series rivalry.

Unlike kick returns, interceptions can be brought out of the end zone, so 100-yard interception returns are statistically possible.
