ALBANY – Georgia College of Milledgeville came into Albany Tuesday and swept both the men’s and women’s games at Albany State. The Georgia College men (4-1) topped the Golden Rams 71-65, while the Lady Bobcats beat ASU 62-51.
In the men’s game, the Golden Rams (1-4) outshot the Bobcats, making 53 percent of their shots to the visitor’s 44 percent. The difference though, Georgia College registered 18 second-chance points to the host school’s five. The Rams also gave up 19 turnovers in the game.
Tyrell Williams, a 6’9” senior from Miami, led the Golden Rams with 13 points and eight rebounds. Jonathan Henderson posted 14 points for the Golden Rams while Mario Young added 12 points. Jared Harrington also reached double-figures with 11 points.
In the women’s game, Alexandria James scored a game-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting but it was not enough.
Albany State (0-6) stymied the Georgia College (1-4) attack, holding the Lady Bobcats to 34 percent from the floor. However, the Golden Rams struggled from long-range, making just 2-of-16 shots from beyond the arc.
Shantrell Holland added 12 points on an efficient night going 4-for-5 from the field. Tyra Thompson had a game-high eight rebounds for ASU.
Both ASU teams will begin conference play Saturday in Albany with games against Central State of Ohio. The women’s game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the men will follow at 3 p.m. The games will take place at the Arena at West Campus.
