Man dies from injuries in car accident at south Albany intersection

ALBANY — Paul Browner II, 28, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a car accident at the intersection of South Slappey Boulevard and Newton Road that occurred at 12:59 a.m. on Thursday, officials from the Albany Police Department said.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said Browner was traveling south on South Slappey Boulevard in a 2010 Dodge Charger. He approached the Newton Road intersection and ran over the traffic island. The vehicle rotated clockwise and struck a sign post before continuing to rotate off of the road and striking a tree with the undercarriage.

Banks said Browner died as a result of his injuries, and that his family was notified at 3:44 a.m.

The hours immediately following the crash, the APD shut down the intersection. The APD said no other fatalities or injuries have been reported.

The APD Traffic Unit was called in to investigate the crash.
