Sherwood Christian Lady Eagles take second in state

MACON — First-year Head Coach Gary Oxendine ignited the Lady Eagles of Sherwood Christian Academy and for the first time in school history, the Lady Eagles advanced to the state championship in the GICAA Division 1-AA. The Lady Eagles lost in overtime Saturday 32-26.
Alex McComas tied the game at 26-26 with 26 seconds left. Freshman Joy Kendrick took a shot at the buzzer that would have been the potential game-winner for the Lady Eagles, but the shot missed and sent the game into overtime. Covenant Academy of Macon scored all six points in the overtime and took the state title.
The Lady Eagles were led by junior guard Ashanti Harrison who scored 14 points. Seniors Caroline Mathis and Anna Kendrick added 6 and 4 points respectively.
Sherwood finished the season with an 18-7 record and together score 1,079 points on the year.
