TIFTON – Southwell Medical in Adel recently achieved accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology. This accreditation recognizes Southwell Medical’s commitment and high standard of delivery of quality patient care and safety.

Southwell Medical is the only hospital in the region to receive a COEMIG accreditation from SRC.

Status as an accredited Center of Excellence means that Southwell Medical has met nationally and internationally recognized standards. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous inspection process are granted accreditation.

Dr. Joe Clifton, an OB/GYN with Southwell OB/GYN in Valdosta, performs all his minimally invasive gynecologic surgical procedures in Adel at Southwell Medical.

“This achievement underscores our mission to deliver exceptional care with the most advanced techniques,” Clifton said. “I am so proud of our exceptional nursing and technical team that has created a unique surgical environment. Their efforts have now been validated by this prestigious accreditation.”

Health care facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment. Inspectors educate staff in the accredited departments on best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

“We pursued this accreditation to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to patient safety and excellence in gynecologic care,” Jay Carmichael, the COO of Southwell Medical, said. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team to providing the highest standards of minimally invasive surgery.”
