Dougherty County School System’s graduation rate tops state average

ALBANY — Despite all of the challenges brought by the COVID-19 global pandemic, the percentage of high school seniors who graduated within four years increased in Dougherty County, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
The numbers, which were released publicly recently, show that the districtwide graduation rate grew to 86.22%, up from 2020’s 83.3%. The state average is 83.7%.
“Our ultimate goal is to graduate all students who are ready for the next level, whether that means going to a post-secondary institution, enlisting in one of the armed services, or entering the work force,” Dougherty County School System Superintendent Kenneth Dyer said. “As we approach a 90% threshold in our graduation rate, our results show that we’re making significant progress toward that goal. I commend our students for their hard work making it across the finish line, as well as our faculty and staff for preparing them so ably.”
For the 2021 school year, the graduation rates for both Dougherty Comprehensive High School and Westover Comprehensive High School surpassed the state average with rates of 89.9% and 89.2%, respectively.
