Weston Bryan and Jacori White propel Lee County to 35-23 win over Thomas County Central

LEESBURG – In a highly anticipated showdown, the matchup between No. 2-ranked Lee County and No. 3-ranked Thomas County Central delivered all the excitement fans hoped for, with the Trojans coming out on top 35-23. Senior quarterback Weston Bryan powered Lee County with four touchdowns, while senior defensive back Jacori White’s three interceptions were game-changing moments in a contest filled with shifting momentum and intense action.

Big plays, dramatic swings, and questionable officiating kept the crowd on edge throughout the first half.

“This game says a lot about our team’s resilience,” said Lee County Head Coach Dean Fabrizio. “We had a touchdown allowed on an inadvertent whistle, and another one called back. Despite all that, our guys just kept fighting. I’m really proud of how they responded.”

The Yellow Jackets seized the early momentum with a 51-yard field goal by Drew Reneau and were driving toward another score when White stepped up with a crucial interception, returning it for a touchdown to put Lee County on the board.

Thomas County quickly swung the momentum back with an 83-yard screen pass that should have been stopped. Lee County had called a timeout, but the sideline official failed to signal the stoppage in time, allowing the play to stand.

The Trojans answered with a massive 52-yard touchdown run by Bryan, who dashed around the right side and down the sideline to regain the lead.

Lee County seemed to have control of the game when White grabbed his second interception, followed by Bryan connecting with Ousmane Kromah for a 71-yard touchdown pass. But a holding penalty nullified the score, and moments later, the Yellow Jackets blocked a punt, recovering it for a touchdown to snatch the momentum and the lead again.

Controversy followed when the Trojans appeared to recover a fumble near midfield, but the officials huddled for several minutes before ruling it wasn’t a turnover, awarding possession back to Thomas County Central. Fabrizio and his players vocally protested the decision, but the call stood.

However, White made his presence felt again, snagging his third interception to stop the Yellow Jackets’ drive and secure a 21-17 lead for Lee County at halftime.

The second half became the Weston Bryan show. On fourth-and-goal from the three-yard line, Bryan bulldozed his way into the end zone, dragging defenders with him for his third touchdown of the day. His final score came in the fourth quarter on a 16-yard run, stretching the Trojans’ lead to 35-17.

Thomas County added a late touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Now 6-0, the Trojans will prepare to face Coffee (5-0) Friday night in Leesburg. Coffee, the reigning 5A state champions, are riding a 20-game winning streak but did not play this week due to the hurricane.
