LEESBURG — The Lee County School System has announced that the Lee Board of Education governance team has earned recognition as a 2024 Georgia School Boards Association Exemplary School Board. The governance team comprises the superintendent and the Board of Education.
This recognition highlights the board’s commitment to continuous improvement, transparency and collaboration, all of which play a key role in enhancing educational opportunities for every student in the district. The Georgia School Boards Association honors school boards that demonstrate strong governance, helping to create a positive educational culture that supports student learning and achievement.
The Lee board exceeded the criteria set forth by GSBA to earn Exemplary Board designation. The criteria may be reviewed by visiting the Georgia School Boards Association’s website.
Members of the Lee School Board team include Chair Claire Lang, Trey Newell, Board Vice Chair Donna Ford, Fran Walls, Superintendent Kathleen E.K. Truitt and Jamie McDowell.
In 1998, the Georgia School Boards Association was one of the first school board associations in the nation to develop a program of standards for local boards of education. The GSBA Board recognition program is a three-tiered program.
“This recognition is outstanding,” Truitt said in a news release. “The Lee County Board of Education has worked tirelessly to ensure that all children of Lee County have the opportunity and the access to high-quality education.”
“This honor reflects the board’s unwavering commitment to student achievement for every student,” Lang said. “Each member is dedicated to ensuring that policies are followed and that our students and teachers have the necessary resources to teach, learn and be effective. This honor would not be possible without the support of our superintendent, administration and staff.”
