The Arc of Southwest Georgia holds grand opening for day care facility

ALBANY — The Arc of Southwest Georgia celebrated the opening of its new day care center on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting at the facility’s 826 Liberty Expressway location.
The Janet Mason Day Center will serve 40-45 clients per day and serves Dougherty, Lee and Worth counties. It will house several day programs and is named for former client Janet Mason.
“At this location, we support individuals in life skills, employment skills, daily living skills and integration,” Arc Executive Director DeAnna Julian said during an interview following the ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the facility.
The Arc supports individuals with intellectual disabilities in 15 southwest Georgia counties and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. It has offices at 3005 Dawson Road and operates a child development center at 2700 Stuart Ave.
A trust left by Mason funded the project.
“She was an individual we served for many, many years,” Julian said.
The Arc is holding monthly events commemorating the anniversary leading up to an Aug. 31 fundraiser and celebration event that will be held at the Thronateeska Heritage Center.
