FRIDAY PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Herald Top 5ers Bainbridge boys, girls roll by TCC; Herald No. 1 Americus girls fall to Lee

THOMASVILLE — Make that 15 in a row.

Herald Super 6er Devon Baulkmon led Herald No. 2 Bainbridge with 25 points and Rodney Glenn added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds Friday night as the Beacats routed TCC, 60-45 for their 15th straight win.

“Anytime you can get a region win on the road it’s a good thing,” said Bainbridge coach Rickey McCullough whose improved to 18-2 overall and 1-0 in the region.

BAINBRIDGE GIRLS 59, TCC 49:

April Thomas led the way for The Herald No. 4 Lady Bearcats with 25 points and Super 6er Bria Harris added with a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

“We were just too big for them,” said Bainbridge coach Latreisha Moon, whose team improved to 14-5 overall with the win.

Bainbridge’s boys and girls will travel to Lee County today.

LEE COUNTY GIRLS 57, AMERICUS 52:

Daquenna Moore had a monster game for Lee County with a double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Jessica Clinton added 14 points for Lee which evened its record at 10-10 overall.

“We played smart basketball,” said Lee coach Fran McPherson. “It was the best our guards played all year.”

Ashley Howard led Herald No. 1 Americus with 14 points and Herald Super 6er Jayme Gilbert added 13.

Lee will host a tough region opponent when Bainbridge comes to town today.

WESTFIELD GIRLS 62, SOUTHLAND 42:

Tobi West led Southland with 11 points and Alex Lindsey added another 10 for the Lady Raiders, who fell to 3-19 overall and 3-5 in the region.

Southland will try and turn things around in its next game at Deerfield on Tuesday.

PELHAM GIRLS 71, BAKER 22:

Super 6er D’Ambria Thomas scored a game-high 21 points for Pelham, which also got big games from Ta’Shaunessy Reese( 17) and Octavia Kierce (14).

Pelham, The Herald’s No. 5 team, improved to 15-4 overall and will return home to face Atkinson on Tuesday.

PELHAM BOYS 88, BAKER COUNTY 38:

Despite a game-high 20 points from Freddie Carter, Baker lost to the Hornets, who were led by Dominique Brown’s 16 points.

Darius Thomas added 13 points for Pelham, which improved to 9-10 with the win but remained No. 1 in the sub-region as a huge showdown with rival Mitchell looms Friday for first place.

“We looked OK (Friday night),” said Pelham coach Laron Smith, whose team will next host Atkinson County on Tuesday.

RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS 88, QUITMAN 31:

Shaquille Nunnallly led R-C with 18 points and Tim Stringer-Davis chipped in with 17.

“We are just trying to maintain and go into the region tournament on a high note,” said R-C coach Oglesby, Jackson whose team is 15-7 overall and 8-3 in the region coming off an upset of No. 1 seed Terrell County last Saturday.

R-C will be on the road against Abbeville today.

TERRELL COUNTY BOYS 78, WEBSTER 54:

Dekoven Ware led Terrell County with 24 points and Markez Dotson and Super 6er Terel Hall each added 13 points for TC, which improved to 15-2 overall.

TC has a showdown with Westover today at the Albany Civic Center at 8:30 p.m.

AMERICUS BOYS 51, LEE 45:

Despite getting a game-high 21 points from Joshua Cabrera, Lee could not get the win as it fell to 3-16.

Americus was led by Brandon White, who finished with 19 points and Xavier Willis added 12 more for Americus, which improved to 7-11 overall.

Lee hosts Bainbridge today, while Americus plays at Marion today.

CRISP GIRLS 45, DOUGHERTY 37:

Jayla Hooper scored 13 points for Dougherty, which fell to 12-5 overall and 5-4 in the region.

Dougherty will take on Albany today at the Albany Civic.

CALHOUN BOYS 75, STEWART 52:

Robert Martin led Calhoun with 19 points and Andras Carr added 10 for Calhoun, which improved to 16-4 overall.

Calhoun will travel to Seminole today.

WESTOVER BOYS 62, CAIRO 56:

Dequan Green exploded for 32 points for The Hera;d No. 4 Westover, which improved to 13-9 overall and 6-2 in the region.

“It started off with his defense,” said Westover coach Dallis Smith about Green’s performance. “Then he found his stroke — he played a great game.”

Super 6er Malcolm Sapp chipped in with 12 points for Westover, which will face Terrell County today at the Albany Civic Center.

SEMINOLE GIRLS 41, MITCHELL 39:

Seminole’s Candice Barber finished with just 6 points but it was points five and six that put her team ahead with six second remaining as Seminole held on.

Seminole improved to 14-4 overall and still remains second in the region standings.

Ke’Ondra Mango scored a game-high 19 points for Mitchell.

Seminole hosts Calhoun today, while Mitchell looks to bounce back when in travels to Quitman today.

MITCHELL COUNTY BOYS 58, SEMINOLE COUNTY 45:

The Eagles moved into second place in the sub-region Friday night thanks to 15 points from Stacy Butler, 10 from Cornelius Thomas and 8 each from J’Meel Richardson and Lee Roy Waters.

Seminole was led by Hank Rambo’s 11 points and 10 from Chris Brown.

The Eagles move to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in region play.

WESTWOOD BOYS 44, AUCILLA (FLA.) 36:

Jake Edore was the Wildcats’ only double-figure scorer with 10 points as Westwood improved to 10-8 overall and is still 3-1 in region with two games left: a showdown coming up Tuesday with co-No. 1 Crisp Academy in Camilla, followed by Georgia Christian on Friday.
