Georgia Southwestern basketball tops Albany State in Americus, GA

AMERICUS — The three-pointers just wouldn’t fall for the Albany State Golden Rams (2-1) Monday evening against the home team Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes (5-1) and the Golden Rams suffered their first defeat of the year by an 84-75 final In Americus.

Both teams attempted 15 three-point shots on the night and the Hurricanes made seven of those shots while the Golden Rams sank just three.

Still, Albany State stayed close throughout, until the Hurricanes pushed out to a 16-point lead late in the second half.

The Golden Rams got 17 points and 15 rebounds from freshman Blaise Wallace. Also putting up double figures were Andy Antoine with 16 and Shakur Poteat with 13.

Georgia Southwestern’s Jaylen Jordan, a freshman from Hilliard, Fla. led the scoring for the Hurricanes with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Johnson scored 16, Justin Monden put in 15 and Christian Koonce added 12.

The two teams will meet again on December 11 in Albany at ASU West but the Rams will be in action again this Saturday afternoon when Spring Hill College comes to town for an SIAC match-up. Tip-off Saturday at Albany State West is set for 3 p.m.
