LEESBURG — Lee County senior defensive back and running back Devin Collier announced Saturday on his Twitter account that he will play college football at Georgia Southern University.
He used hashtags #GATA and #HailSouthern.
“Georgia Southern is getting a really good football player,” said Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio. “In addition, they are getting a great student and a high-character young man.”
With his play at safety and his versatility as a running back, receiver, and even some quarterback, Collier had a slew of college offers including SEC titans Ole Miss, Auburn, and Arkansas, as well as an offer from Colorado who is now coached by one of the most famous defensive backs ever — Deion Sanders.
“It felt like family down there,” Collier said as to why he chose Georgia Southern over the other options. “They have great coaches and I feel like I can have something special there.”
Devin is the son of Kelvin Collier and Delorise Collins. He intends to major in engineering in college.
