Local Coaches Speak: The Coach’s Word

Editor’s Note: The Coach’s Word is a new feature each week during football season from Albany Herald Sports where area football coaches are asked one question after each game to see what our local coaches are thinking about their teams.

The question this week: After game one, what are you most concerned about with your team?

Westover Interim head coach Octavia Jones: “I am most concerned about the number of mistakes we made during the game. You can’t expect to win ball games against good teams by making numerous mistakes. I think our offense showed flashes of being able to move the ball, but the ultimate goal is to put points on the board.”

Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio: “Obviously the slow start we had both in our scrimmage game and this Friday. Both games took us a quarter to get going. That hasn’t been the case in years past as we usually start out strong in games.”

Dougherty Interim head coach Uyl Joyner: “My biggest concern is getting back in football condition and not being able to go out because of the heat set us back conditioning-wise.”

Monroe head coach Lacey Herring: “My biggest concern is depth.”

Deerfield-Windsor head coach Jake McCrae: “Our ability to get a full week of practice in without being impacted by the weather. We are too young for not being able to get the full practice experience and it is showing.

Terrell Academy head coach Bill Murdock: “Right now, my biggest concern is the heat. It is hard to get kids ready for game competition and keep the kids safe.”

Sherwood Christian head coach Doug Eason: “The main thing right now is staying healthy and making sure each player does his job.”

Mitchell County head coach Dondiral Pinkins: “My concern after week one is consistency in all three phases of the game. We have what it takes to be successful. However, we must approach practice like a game to make Friday nights more successful.

Worth County head coach Jeff Hammond: “Offensively we have to eliminate turnovers. Defensively we have to be better on third downs.”
