ALBANY — Deerfield-Windsor head football coach Jake McCrae is not too worried about what he saw during Friday night’s scrimmage against Marion County because he believes his team is not afraid to do what needs to get fixed. The Knights lost 21-0 to a talented Marion County team.

“Tonight was about what we expected,” McCrae said after the game. “We did see some good things and the bad things are very fixable. We aren’t worried about effort with these guys so we can focus on all of the little things.”

The Deerfield-Windsor defense shut down Marion on their first possession but gave up two big plays in the first half — one 50-plus yard run and one 50-plus yard touchdown pass play that gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead at the half. The Eagles scored again in the third quarter on another long pass where there was no coverage downfield.

The Deerfield-Windsor offense struggled with three turnovers during the first four possessions but did not have any turnovers later. On defense, Thomas Phillips and Collin Snipes intercepted passes for the Knights.

The Knights will open the regular season Friday night at home against Miller County.
