LEESBURG – Lee County star running back Ousmane Kromah earned the Georgia High School Football Player of the Week award this past Friday night and was honored Wednesday morning at a ceremony at Lee County High School. The award recognizes the outstanding football player for the entire state of Georgia for that week’s competition.
Ted Langford of the Georgia High School Football Daily, a part of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, came to Leesburg to present Kromah the award. Coaches, school administrators, Kromah’s teammates and family were all welcomed to the ceremony.
“I am so proud of Ousmane for getting this award,” said Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio. “He is certainly deserving.”
In Friday’s game in Warner Robins against then-No.3-ranked Houston County, Kromah carried the ball 22 times and picked up 322 yards — an average of more than 14 yards per carry — and four touchdowns to lead the Trojans (5-1) to a 44-35 win in the team’s region opener.
Kromah added more than one-third of his total rushing yards for the season in Friday night’s game. In six games he has rushed for 913 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also picked up 248 receiving yards and four more touchdowns for the Trojans.
Lee County will host Veterans High School Friday night in Leesburg for another region contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium on the campus of Lee County High School.
