BAINBRIDGE — The Herald No. 1 Bainbridge boys basketball team capped off an amazing three months Saturday when they won their 23rd game in a row, 77-65, to beat TCC for the Region 1-AAAA title.

Super 6er Devon Baulkmon led with 21 points, while four other players scored in double figures: Ronald Crawford (13), Paul Chukes (11), Rodney Glenn (10) and Dontavious Marshall (10).

“It feels good,” said Bainbridge coach Rickey McCullough, who has now led the Bearcats to three straight region crowns. “I’m most proud for the kids. They came out, shot the ball well, played defense and got it done.”

McCullough, who has been a high school basketball coach between Florida and Georgia for more than 30 years, said he’s never had a winning streak like this in his entire career.

“I’m proud of it, for sure,” he said. “But again, I’m most proud for the players. You have to have good players to (do something like that).”

BHS GIRLS FALL SHORT:

Warner Robins pressed and trapped all night as The Herald No. 2 Lady Bearcats fell short Saturday, 48-41, in the 1-AAAA title game.

“We should’ve won that game,” BHS coach Latreisha Moon said. “I’m very disappointed.”

The good news, however, is that both the boys and girls teams will host a first-round game in the state playoffs either Friday or Saturday.
