ATLANTA – The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians held the inauguration recently of Dr. Michael Satchell as its new president during the group’s 2024 annual meeting held Nov. 8-10 at the Avalon Hotel in Alpharetta.
Satchell, a family physician based in Albany, brings an extensive background in family medicine and a deep commitment to health care excellence, positioning him as an ideal leader for GAFP.
“I am deeply honored to be selected as the leader for GAFP,” Satchell said. “The organization’s innovative approach and steadfast dedication to the health of Georgians have been instrumental, and I am thrilled to lead such a distinguished organization.”
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in a family dedicated to health care, Satchell moved to the United States at the age of 5. After an honorable service in the United States Air Force, he followed in his mother’s footsteps in the health care field and rose through the ranks of medical practice to reach his current leadership position.
Satchell has spent more than two decades serving communities in Georgia, most notably in Albany, where he practices and lives. He currently is a partner at Medical Associates of Albany and serves as medical director at multiple health and rehabilitation facilities.
“Dr. Satchell’s wealth of experience and dedicated service make him an exemplary leader for our organization,” Dr. Samuel L. “Le” Church, the outgoing president of GAFP, said. “His compassionate approach to patient care and his visionary outlook on family medicine are what GAFP seeks in its leadership.”
Upon his inauguration, Satchell expressed enthusiasm about his new role.
“I view this leadership position as a great opportunity to advocate for the advancement of family medicine and improve health care delivery systems in Georgia,” he said. “I look forward to working closely with my peers to promote excellence in family medicine education and practice.”
Additionally, Satchell has been a vibrant part of the global medical community, engaging in medical missions across several countries and serving in leadership roles within other medical associations.
