Geraldine Hudley seeking to enhance School Board, keep system moving forward

ALBANY — Geraldine Hudley has spent most of her life as an educator: a principal, a teacher in the Dougherty County School System, and as an adjunct professor at Albany State University.

She will quickly tell you she’s no politician, but that’s not keeping her from running for the DCSS School Board at-large seat against Susie Ealum in the May 24 Democratic primary.

She will also tell you she has no problems with the current School Board or with Ealum. Hudley is not running to change anything; instead, she says she is looking to enhance what is already working.

“I am excited about the way our school system is heading, and I am excited to talk to people about it. I have no real problems with the School Board,” Hudley said. “The people I have spoken to are generally happy about the direction of the school system and want to know more about how it works. They want more information on things like the new College and Career Academy and how the system is moving forward.”

The retired educator said her experience inside the classroom is an asset she will use if elected.

“I will bring knowledge and a special skill set to the Dougherty County School Board,” Hudley said. “I want to help in development of School Board policy and am anxious to continue the momentum we have built to further improve our schools.

“I believe we need to keep pushing forward with technology and remain on the cutting edge. As I said before, I am excited about the opportunity to pass on my knowledge about young people.”

Hudley said she thinks the DCSS is in good shape at the moment.

“I think we are in a good place and ready to take off and become a model school system,” she said. “I am interested in maintaining a positive image of the school system and being able to hear from students and young scholars, hearing about what they’d like to see from school leaders and your board, and what will forge progress and academic achievement.”

Hudley holds a B.A. from Spelman College in Political Science with a minor in French, and an M.Ed in Social Science from Georgia Southwestern State University.
