Motorcycle driver misses crash with car Thursday

ALBANY, Ga. — A close call with a car put a 24-year-old motorcycle driver in the hospital after 4:40 p.m. Thursday, stated an Albany Police Department report.

Delmario Marshall was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital by Dougherty County EMS. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in fair condition at about 5 p.m.

To avoid a car making a turn off East Oglethorpe Boulevard onto Sands Drive, Marshall swerved and put his bike down, the police report stated. The slide on the boulevard smashed the bike’s Plexiglas windshield and left at least one of Marshall’s shoes in the eastbound lane.

The car took off in the direction of Albany State University according to witnesses, said Phyllis Banks, police spokes woman.

The car was a Honda Civic or Accord, probably dark green or black, Banks said. Police would like to talk to the driver of the car, she added.
