Trent Thompson named U.S. Army Defensive Player of Year

SAN ANTONIO — Westover High School defensive lineman Trent Thompson was named the American Family Insurance Defensive Player of the Year Award at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl ceremonies late Friday night.

Thompson, who has verbally committed to Georgia, finished with 84 tackles, including 36 for loss. He added four sacks, one interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also played on the offensive line.

Thompson will be playing on the East squad in today’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The award is the second national honor as he was named the National Defensive Player of the Year by USA Today in December.
