Pit bull tased after lunging at Albany police officer

ALBANY — An officer with the Albany Police Department had to pull a Taser on a dog over the weekend that was getting aggressive, reports show.
An officer reported to 610 Medlock Ave. at around 11 a.m. on Sunday regarding at least one animal running at large, when the officer saw two dogs matching the description of two strays that had killed a small brown terrier at the address earlier. An animal control officer responded to Monroe High School and the two animals, both pit bulls, were cornered, the report said.
One of the strays, described as a white pit bull, reportedly lunged forward at an officer, who then deployed his Taser at the animal. That animal was caught on the 800 block of Cedar Avenue, the report said.
The second pit bull, a black and white dog, was caught outside Monroe High, the report said.
Albany Humane Society Executive Director Donna Strickland said the two dogs — a male and a female — connected to the incident were in good condition. She was unaware that one of the dogs was tased, but said the male was aggressive, while the female was behaving nicely.
