Sherwood Christian girls soccer heading back to state championship game

ALBANY — Last year, the Sherwood Christian Lady Eagles soccer team tasted the state championship.
They liked it so much that Monday night, they disposed of Community Christian 7-0 to return to the state championship game again.
The Lady Eagles showed why they are 16-0 and on a 32-game winning streak, taking control early with four first-half goals in the semifinals of the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association (GICAA) at Sam J. Smith Stadium.
Last year, Sherwood Christian won the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) Class AA state championship.
Only one more victory separates the Lady Eagles from a second straight state title.
“I was really proud of the girls. We’ve been doing a lot of work on making runs into the final third and playing balls through the middle third,” SCA coach Jeremy Davidson said. “They put the ball on the ground, moved it around, made some great runs and capitalized on early opportunities. Our goal tonight was to put the game away early, and I felt like they did that.”
Junior forward Kylee Harrod scored a hat trick and Kaitlyn Cuff scored two goals to lead the Lady Eagles’ onslaught. SCA dominated possession throughout the match and created numerous chances to score. Defensively, SCA limited the Lady Knights to just a few scoring opportunities.
Harrod began the scoring with two early goals, followed by a 30-yard blast from Cuff and a goal from Jordyn Paramore to round out the first-half scoring.
With the Lady Eagles up 4-0 to start the second half, they resumed their offensive attack. Molly Kate McClearn scored on a header off a corner kick by Hannah King.
King scored a few minutes later to increase the Lady Eagles’ bulge to 6-0, followed by Harrod’s third goal of the match.
The Lady Eagles will await the other semifinal winner and will play for the state championship on Saturday. The time and site will be determined.
