WARREN D. GRANT: Gun control is not the answer

What is a tool? The dictionary describes it as “any implement, instrument, etc. held in the hand and used for some work: knives, saws, shovels, etc. are tools.” Guns could just as easily be added to this list. There is one common denominator involved in the use of tools, and that is a human being. Even if a power tool is run by a computer, a human was involved in the programming or somewhere else, but with tools, always a human must be involved.

Calling people names is useless, as it just causes people to become angry and more resistant to seeing the obvious. Prohibition did not work in controlling alcohol, and it doesn’t work in controlling guns. Chicago has been called the “Murder Capital of the U.S.,” yet it has a ban on guns, as does Washington, D.C. Last year in Chicago, there was a total of 2,169 people shot, with a person being murdered every 19:12 hours, and Washington D.C. had 105 homicides. In every instance, a human was involved. Let me repeat that for those of you who don’t get it: In every instance a human was involved. The guns by themselves did not commit any crimes, the individual did. Just the same as if a person takes a hammer and beats someone to death.

Anyone who thinks criminals will obey the law is completely oblivious to reason. Criminals never obey the law, that’s why we have prisons. All of the companies, schools, businesses and institutions that have banned guns are advertising to the degenerate minds of individuals who have a wanton disregard for the law that this is the place to go to get their name in the paper and on TV. The only possible reason to enact a total ban on guns is to create a socialist society, as did Hitler and Castro and other communist regimes.

Why can’t you people who want to ban guns understand this?
