ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is investigating a shooting that was reported early Wednesday on Schley Avenue, with conflicting reports on what happened, reports show.
Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said officers responded to 1605 Schley Ave. in reference to a person being shot in the leg at around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Contact was made with Dontrell Brown, 26, who police say was intoxicated and had a gunshot wound to the left inner thigh area.
When asked by officers what happened, Brown refused to give any information. After repeated questioning, he finally gave his name and slowly started giving officers different accounts of what happened, Banks said.
Banks said that Brown stated he was in a vehicle with three other men somewhere around Big Daddy’s on East Broad Avenue when he was shot. He then stated he shot himself a short time later. He said he didn’t want to get anyone in trouble.
A witness stated that Brown knocked on her door and asked her to call the police because he had been shot, Banks said.
A spokeswoman from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital said Thursday that Brown had been discharged.
This case remains under investigation to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
