Courthouse threat under investigation

ALBANY, Ga. — Authorities are currently trying to track down a man they say called in a bomb threat to the Dougherty County Courthouse Monday afternoon.
Capt. Craig Dodd of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office said that someone called dispatch at 12:19 p.m. saying there was a bomb in the courthouse that was set to go off in 30 minutes.
Dodd said that the building was searched room by room but nothing was found. The same person reportedly called in a bomb threat to 1101 W. Highland Ave, the site of a local alternative school.
Authorities are looking for the person that called the threats in, which they describe as a man possibly in his 20s.
Dodd said it is not uncommon for buildings such as a courthouse to get threats like that. Generally, it turns out to be a hoax.
“Any public building tends to have more threats,” Dodd said. “Because of the nature of our business, people tend to get upset when their court cases don’t turn out the way they want them to.”
The Dougherty County Courthouse gets one once or twice a year, he said.
