Price announces candidacy for Dougherty School Board

ALBANY, Ga. — Lane Price announced her candidacy for the Dougherty County Board of Education’s at-large seat Wednesday at the International Studies Elementary School off Mock Road.

The at-large seat is currently held by Anita Williams-Brown.

“This is an important day for the Dougherty County School System,and this is why,” Price said as she began her announcement, “My name is Lane Price — Dr. Lane Price — and I hereby announce my candidacy for the Dougherty County School Board.”

According to Price, the the board is rife with “lying and cheating,” and is lacking in oversight.

“Frankly, enough is enough,” Price said. “When our schools are tainted, our entire county suffers. Only a high standard of values can rejuvenate our current board.”

Price said it will require someone honest, ethical, intelligent and passionate to keep the Board of Education in line, and she believes she fits the bill.

“I intend to be that watchdog,” Price said. “The most important thing we can provide for the children of Dougherty County is a quality education. For the economic well being of the entire community, our children must have a quality education.”

Price referred to the Dougherty County School System as a whole as “sick and broken.”

“I’m a doctor,” Price said. “I want to fix it and make it healthy.”

The candidate referred to herself as “passionate” and recounted her medical school studies at a time when few women were encouraged to attend.

“There were only five women in my class,” Price said, “and now I teach medical school residents at Phoebe.”

Standing at the outdoor podium with her husband, Julian, Price cited two “bright spots” in the Dougherty system: The International Studies Elementary School and Albany Early College.
