Investigations continue on Albany burglaries

ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany Police Department’s Burglary Unit is again soliciting the public’s assistance with obtaining information regarding a theft that occurred on Jan. 14 at the Riverside/Oakview Cemetery at 220 Cotton Ave.

Meanwhile, a two-day sweep for wanted burglary suspects conducted late last week proved to be successful, police officials say.

On the day of the cemetery theft, an unknown person entered a work shed and took six backpack blowers, three weed cutters and two trimmers, police said.

The estimated value of the lawn equipment is about $3,900. Along with a request for tips, detectives are also reminding citizens that if they are in possession of any of the equipment, it is in their best interest to speak with police immediately to avoid charges of theft by receiving stolen property.

There were several arrests made last week as part of a two-day sweep for theft suspects on Friday and Saturday with the help of tips from the public.

Rodercia West, 22, has been charged with one count of burglary and Mascon Lovitt, 19, has been charged with five counts of burglary following Friday’s sweep. There were three arrests made the following day: Kadolphie Spencer, who was arrested and charged with several counts of burglary, as well as Tyrell Lawson, 22, and Ko’Leon Campbell (Jackson), 18.

County charges are also pending against Lovitt, Campbell and Lawson, APD officials say.

The property that was recovered and since returned to its owners included four laptops, two 19-inch televisions, a 42-inch television, a 26-inch television, a DVD player, a ring and a gaming system.

The property was recovered from the 3000 block of Woodridge Court in Dougherty County. The estimated value of the items was a little under $3,000, police officials said.

In all, police say, there were six homes impacted by this string of burglaries. There are still more arrests pending, investigators say.
