DAWSON – The Terrell Academy Lady Eagles earned their first win of the season Monday afternoon, defeating the Westwood Lady Cats 10-5 in Dawson. Terrell Academy improves to 1-2 on the season, while Westwood falls to 2-2.

Center fielder Sydney Lord led the Lady Eagles at the plate, hitting a single, double, and triple while scoring two runs. Emma Lane, Savannah Joiner, and Lily Addison each contributed two RBIs.

After a 1-1 tie in the first inning, Terrell Academy pulled ahead by scoring two runs in the second, four in the third, and two more in the fourth, building a 9-3 lead. This marked the Lady Eagles’ most productive offensive outing of the season.

“We played a much better game defensively,” said Terrell Head Coach Tim Mears. “We also had a lot of quality at-bats and good base running, which put pressure on their defense.”

Westwood first baseman Mattie Gray led the Lady Cats with two RBIs, while Abby Lanier and Payton Sherman each had two hits. Madison Stewart doubled in the seventh inning, driving in a run as the Lady Cats attempted a late comeback.

Terrell Academy sophomore Caroline Presley earned the win in the circle, allowing seven hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. Eighth-grader Kacy Sheffield came in as relief to close out the game for the Lady Eagles.

Westwood’s Bentley Palmer pitched the entire game for the Lady Cats, taking the loss after allowing 10 hits and 10 runs—five of them earned. She walked three and struck out three.

The Lady Eagles will now embark on a seven-game road stretch before returning home to face Deerfield-Windsor on September 10. Westwood will host Brookwood in Camilla on Monday.

Terrell Academy’s Sydney Lord (9) slides in safely after stealing a base during the third inning of Monday’s game against Westwood in Dawson. The throw from Westwood catcher Madison Stewart to shortstop Emma Shiver was on target but a half-second late as umpires ruled Lord was safe. The Lady Eagles scored four runs in that third inning to break open a close game.
