From Staff Reports
ALBANY — Albany State University has announced Todd Triplett as the new assistant coach for the Lady Golden Rams basketball team. Triplett, whose coaching career spans both U.S. and international basketball, brings a wealth of experience to the program along with a commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court.
Triplett steps into the role following three years coaching in Mexico’s professional leagues, including stints in the CIBAPAC, CIBACOPA, and ABCMex leagues in cities like Zacatecas, Guaymas, and Progreso. His background also includes time as an assistant women’s coach at Edward Waters University, where he contributed to player development and team success. In 2020, he led West Oaks Academy to a state championship in the SIAA Girls Basketball league.
“Todd’s experience and dedication to mentorship align perfectly with our program’s goals,” said Albany State Director of Athletics Dr. Kristene Kelly. “We’re excited to welcome him to the Golden Rams family and believe he will make a positive impact on our student-athletes.”
Triplett’s coaching career began with volunteer work at Bethune-Cookman University and continued as an assistant men’s coach at Brevard Community College. He later served as associate head men’s coach and strength and conditioning coach at Clark Atlanta University. Triplett has also coached in professional settings, including as head coach of the Orlando Aces in the American Basketball Association and at the NBA-sanctioned Global Hoop Summit in Las Vegas.
Before transitioning fully into coaching, Triplett had a playing career that took him to Europe, where he competed in Reykjavik, Iceland, and later coached in Luxembourg. Originally from Atlanta, he attended Redan Senior High and played at Morris Brown College before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Charter Oak State College and a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from InterContinental University.
Triplett, an Atlanta native and father of three, is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and brings a focus on skill development, sportsmanship, and academic achievement to Albany State. He looks forward to helping the Lady Golden Rams reach new heights in the upcoming season.
