Jalen Holmes leads Westover to overtime win over Liberty County
Westover guard Jalen Holmes scored the game tying basket to send the game into overtime then had a crucial basket in overtime to give Westover the win.
ALBANY — Jalen Holmes delivered in the clutch Friday night, scoring the game-tying basket with 18 seconds left in regulation and completing a critical three-point play in overtime to lift the Westover Patriots to a dramatic 43-41 win over Liberty County in the U-Save-It Classic.
The Panthers appeared to be in control with a 35-25 lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Patriots mounted a spirited comeback. Bryson Carter ignited the rally with a deep three-pointer, followed by two clutch free throws that energized the Westover crowd. Gregory Williams added two more free throws to close the gap to 35-32.
After a Liberty County basket, Westover’s Jacob Ross buried a corner three with 1:30 remaining, cutting the deficit to 37-35. Moments later, Holmes drove to the basket for the game-tying score, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra period, both teams struggled offensively, but with the score knotted at 39-39, Holmes struck again. Driving to the rim, he scored and drew a foul, calmly sinking the free throw to give the Patriots a 42-39 lead.
Liberty County had multiple opportunities to respond but missed several shots under the basket. Williams secured a pivotal rebound in the final moments and was fouled, ensuring the Patriots’ hard-fought victory.
Holmes led Westover with 13 points, while Carter contributed eight, and Williams added seven.
The win improves Westover’s season record to 6-3. The Patriots did not get a second game in the U-Save-It Classic because Park Crossing of Montgomery did not come as scheduled.
