Albany Herald sponsoring health and seniors expo at Albany Mall
First SWGA Health Fair & Senior Expo is set for May 13 at the Albany Mall
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — The Albany Herald and the Albany Mall are joining together for the first SWGA Health Fair & Senior Expo, set for May 13 at the mall.
The event will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. that Saturday on Mother’s Day weekend.
Ken Boler, general manager of The Herald, said the event will be both fun and informative in an area that is critically important to all Southwest Georgia residents — their health.
“We realize that we’ve got a lot of health care challenges in Southwest Georgia,” Boler said. “At the expo, we’ll have experts available and do some screenings and educational presentations, informing people about wellness, activities and senior living.”
With the graying of an American population that is living longer, taking a healthy approach to life can provide the chance to have active, independent golden years.
“With the booming of the aging population, this need is only going to be more critical for senior care, memory care and access,” Boler said. “By partnering with our friends at the Albany Mall, folks can spend time at the mall and also pick up pamphlets and get information from vendors instead of having to make a special trip.
“They can go shopping and pick up some healthy living tips and information at the same time.”
In addition to information and health screenings, participants will receive a free gift bag and will be eligible for prizes and giveaways.
Officials with Albany State University’s Darton School of Health Sciences will also be on hand to share information on health care careers, Boler said.
“It’s going to be an impactful day, lots of giveaways and short stage presentations from the vendors,” he said. “It’s all about information and, in this day, in health care, you just can’t get enough.”
While a number of vendors have signed up, there is some availability. Those interesting in being a vendor at the SWGA health fair & Senior Expo can call (770) 963-9205 Ext. 1203 or email [email protected].
