Shenandoah plans May 5 show in Tifton
Marty Raybon back with county/Americana favorites

TIFTON — With break-out star Marty Raybon back in the fold, fans of country/Americana greats Shenandoah are flashing back to the band’s glory days.
South Georgia Shenandoah fans will have an opportunity to get the real thing up close and personal when the band presents an intimate acoustic performance May 5 at the historic downtown Tift Theatre.
Singer/songwriter Daniel Parrish will provide an opening set at the concert, which is a production of TyTy-based McAlpin Entertainment.
“This is a rare opportunity for Shenandoah fans because they don’t do a lot of acoustic shows,” McAlpin Entertainment President Austin McAlpin said. “But the Tift Theatre is the perfect venue for that kind of performance. We’ve had some very good acoustic shows there, from John Berry to Doug Stone to Edwin McCain to Deana Carter.”
Shenandoah are best known for their hits “Moon Over Georgia,” Next to You Next to Me,” “Two Dozen Roses,” “Sunday in the South” and “I Want to Be Loved Like That.” The talented Raybon, who embarked on a successful solo career before returning to Shenandoah in late 2014, adds an element of excitement to the lineup.
“I know fans of the band will be excited to see Marty back with them,” McAlpin said.
Doors at the 320 Main St. venue open at 7 p.m. Advance tickets, which are $25, are available online at www.freshtix.com. The price will increase to $30 the day of the show.
“I think what you’re seeing happen now is Tifton becoming a viable stop-off place for bands touring the state,” McAlpin said of the recent run of successful shows he has promoted or co-promoted in the city, including last month’s sold-out Willie Nelson concert and a December show by Merle Haggard. “It’s really in a good location, right on I-75 with easy access for artists and their agencies.
“We also like having week-day shows, which is not what most places want. Artists want their weekend performances in big cities.”
