ALBANY — Theatre Albany’s 2018-19 season is quickly approaching, with auditions for its first show of the season beginning on July 7.
Dianne Giddens, the guest director for the first show, said that Theatre Albany will kick off its season with a performance of “The Music Man.” The famous musical tells the story of a con man by the name of Professor Harold Hill, who comes to town pretending to be a band organizer and is selling instruments with the promise of teaching the townsfolk how to play.
“The story is of a con man who comes to town falsely promising to train musicians,” Giddens said. “And then the librarian, Marian, catches his eye and everything changes from there.”
Auditions for the show will take place at Theatre Albany on July 7 at 3 p.m., on July 8 at 5 p.m. and on July 9 at 7 p.m. The main roles to fill are Harold Hill and Marian the librarian, who should be between the ages of 30 to 45. The play also includes the roles of Marian’s mother, a quartet and a few children. The auditions are open to all ages, as Giddens will need a variety of people to fill the roles of the townsfolk as well.
For the audition, actors should be prepared to sing a song that shows their vocal abilities. They should come with their own track. Sheet music will be provided.
Rehearsals for the show will begin on July 29, with more details on rehearsals provided after auditions. Performances will be on Sept. 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are planned on Sept. 23 and 30 at 2 p.m.
