ALBANY – The people at Homerun Foods are homegrown, and on Saturday parent company Lanier Oil Co. is celebrating 60 years in a business that is now in its third generation of Albany natives.

Started six decades ago, Lanier Oil Co. was founded by J.B. “Brad” Lanier Jr. after he served more than than 10 years in the U.S. Air Force. The fledgling venture took wings with one truck and two employees.

Today, the company trucks to as far as the Atlanta area, serving more than a third of Georgia, and also covers part of Alabama, Brad Lanier’s son Jeff Lanier, who took over following his father’s death in 1988, said.

To celebrate, the company is offering discounted gasoline prices at the eight Homerun Foods locations in Dougherty County as well as the BLOC Stop on Moultrie Highway and the recently opened LOC Stop in Terrell County.

“We just want to say thank you to our customers,” Lanier said. “On April 19, 1965, my father Brad Lanier Jr. started the company when he was 33 years old. It’s hard to stay in business for 60 years.”

Today, four of Jeff Lanier’s sons are part of the company, which has expanded from its humble origins.
