TIFTON — The Alabama Department of Transportation has advised that a contractor plans to close the Chattahoochee River bridge for repairs on Nov. 28, which will impact Georgia State Route 62 traffic traveling into Alabama.

The bridge is on Alabama Highway 52 in Columbia, and it crosses into Georgia on SR 62 southwest of Hilton. The project will consist of hydro blasting and rehabilitating the bridge deck to extend the life of the structure.

Due to the nature of the project, the bridge will need to be closed to all traffic until work is completed. During the closure, a detour will be in place that will utilize Georgia SR 62, Georgia SR 370 and U.S. Highway 84. The contractor anticipates re-opening the bridge by the end of the year.
