ALBANY — Dougherty County Jail Detention Officer Emmanuel Gates has been arrested and charged with inappropriate sexual contact with an inmate and violation of his oath of office, both felony charges.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred Sunday at the Dougherty County Jail.

Gates allegedly performed a sex act on an inmate in custody. The inmate later called his family, who reported the alleged incident to jail officials. An investigation was conducted, resulting in Gates being taken into custody.

The detention officer is currently being held without bond at the jail.
