Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, Flint Riverkeeper help keep Flint River ‘Alive’

ALBANY — On a beautiful crisp fall morning, approximately 45 volunteers helped clean the banks and the water of the Flint River from the Georgia Power Dam to Radium Landing.
The Flint River Outpost, led by owner Jeannie Yarger, helped greatly with this event by providing kayaks and on water paddling support.
This year’s event was once again sponsored by MolsonCoors Beverage Company.
The volunteers collected more than 45 bags of garbage and assorted large items, including a shopping cart, automobile tire and a plastic car bumper.
The nine volunteer paddlers also were able to enjoy passing through the exciting shoals in downtown Albany as part of their reward for helping clean the river.
“This river section was mostly free of garbage,” Flint Riverkeeper and Executive Director Gordon Rogers said as he patrolled the river in the group’s motor boat. “That is always a good thing to hear because it means we are making a difference in removing harmful pollution from the water.”
