MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE-ALBANY — MCLB-Albany leaders hosted a staff delegation visit from U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s office recently. Jill Ricotta, Ossoff’s national security advisor, and Neal Vanmarter, the senator’s regional outreach coordinator, heard from MCLB-Albany and Marine Corps Logistics Command leaders about the current state of the base.
Ossoff later introduced legislation calling for $64 million in funding to upgrade national security infrastructure at the base.
Ossoff’s staff received command overviews and toured key facilities, such as Marine Depot Maintenance Command, Marine Force Storage Command, the base Child Development Center, base exchange, commissary, base housing and the enlisted barracks during their visit.
The Georgia senator introduced legislation in the Senate to authorize construction of a new consolidated communication facility at the Albany base.
Ossoff delivered funding through the bipartisan government funding package for the MCLB-Albany project last year, but the latest legislation he brought to his colleagues, called the MCLB-Albany Innovation Act, would authorize the next step in construction for the facility.
The new facility will support the Marine Corps Logistics Command’s (LOGCOM) innovation efforts within the realm of robotics and industrial technology, consolidating all data centers into one facility supporting all tenant hosting requirements and related controls, increasing IT’s capacity to Production Plant Albany.
“I’m working to upgrade the Marine Corps Logistics Base’s communications facilities to strengthen national security and support this vital Georgia installation,” Ossoff said in a news release.
The bill the Georgia Senator introduced reads:
IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
Mr. Ossoff introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee …
A BILL
To authorize the appropriation of amounts for the construction of a consolidated communication facility at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, Georgia.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, This Act may be cited as the ‘‘MCLB Albany Innovation Act.’’
AUTHORIZATION OF AMOUNTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A CONSOLIDATED COMMUNICATION FACILITY AT MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE-ALBANY, GEORGIA.
There is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary of Defense for Fiscal Year 2025 $64,100,000 for the construction of a consolidated communication facility at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, Georgia.
