ALBANY — This year’s Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Women’s Health Conference will take place Saturday at Phoebe HealthWorks.
The conference is being held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year’s theme, “You’ve Got the Power!,” is inspired by the necessary education efforts toward women on things one can do to ensure many quality years ahead, event coordinators say.
Open to the public, coordinators say the event will feature free health screenings, information booths, door prizes, free breakfast and lunch, entertainment and physician-led workshops.
The special guest speakers for the event are expected to be Janice Hayes and Tina Long of Greater Atlanta Voicemasters, who will share personal stories exposing the hidden dangers of smoking. Voicemasters is a support group for individuals who have undergone surgical removal of their larynx, or voice box, and use electronic devices for communication.
Coordinators say other presenters and topics will include “Chronic Disease and Women” by Dr. Keisha Callins of Mirian Worthy Women’s Health Center, “Eating Healthy on the Run” by Suzanne Williams family and consumer sciences agent with University of Georgia’s Dougherty County Extension Office and “Breast Health” by Phoebe Cancer Center nurse Tina Giovingo.
Blood pressure readings and cholesterol screenings will be ongoing from 8 a.m. to noon. For the cholesterol screening, it is recommended to fast after midnight.
Phoebe HealthWorks is located at 311 Third Ave., across the street from the hospital.
