ALBANY -‒ With school out, there are a number of local venues offering respite from boredom during the seemingly non-ending days of Summer Doldrums.

Chehaw Park & Zoo offers full- and half-day camps during school breaks for children between the ages of 4-12. Each day of camp includes a trip to the zoo, animal encounters, crafts, games, activities, a snack, a Chehaw water bottle, and a cool camp T-shirt. Children will have fun while learning through hands-on activities.

Full-day sessions for campers ages 5-12 are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Half-day sessions for 4-year-olds are from 9 a.m.-noon. Drop-off is from 8:30-9 a.m. Late pick-up is available from 3-6 p.m. for $10 per day or $40 per week. Members receive a 10% discount on camp sessions plus half price after-camp care.

Camps include:

Critter Careers (ages 5-12): When I grow up, I want to work with animals and be … a zookeeper or a veterinarian or a scientist or a critter catcher or an educator. How can one possibly pick with so many career paths? Campers will meet animal professionals, get hands-on with the animals, and explore every aspect of what makes the zoo go ’round.

5-day Camps — June 10-14, June 17-21, July 15‒19, July 22-26: $140

3-day Camps — July 1-3: $95

Eco-Invaders (Ages 7-8): Invaders of the plant and animal kind could have the power to wreak havoc on our beautiful ecosystem. Luckily, campers will spend the week tracking down this pesky wildlife and discovering tools and techniques they can use to stop their spread and save our planet.

5-day Camps: June 3-7, July 8-12: $140

Grossology (Ages 7-12): Eww, gross, where did that come from? Did it just eat that? Animals do some weird things your mother would never let you do at home. Spend the week learning and experiencing all the gross and weird things animals do to survive.

5-day Camps: June 17-21, July 22-26, July 29-Aug. 2: $140

3-day Camps: July 1-3: $95

Locomotion Commotion (Ages 4- 12): Slither, scoot, hop, fly, walk, swim, or run to this fun-filled week of camp. Animals have so many unique ways of movement, all adapted perfectly to survive in their habitats. Campers will be moving and grooving all week as they jump into the wild world of animal movement.

Horton Hears a Zoo (Ages 4-6): “I meant what I said, and I said what I meant,” a zoo is the greatest place of all. Sink or Swim (Ages 9-12): Campers turn on their survival mode, discovering the ins and outs of mother nature. She can be a friend or foe, providing everything you need, then in an instant toss you a mean curve ball. Luckily camp counselors are well-versed in mother nature’s language and will show campers just how to hack it in the Georgia woods.

5-day Camps: June 10-14, July 15-19: $140 (Includes a canoe trip)

Birds of a Feather (Ages 9-12): Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird, no it’s a plane, no, really, it’s a bird. Look through the trees and high in the sky as we explore the wide world of birds. Campers will get to meet our flighted friends up close and personal in the zoo to discover just what makes a bird a bird. Explorers should prepare to lace up those boots, hit the trails, and meet the many avian creatures living in our own backyards.

5-day Camps: June 24-28: $140

Colorful Creatures (Ages 4-12): Flashes of red, dashes of blue, hints of green, and everything in between. Creatures exist in all different colors, shapes, and sizes.
