ALBANY — Three of four members of the Dougherty County 4-H program who participated in the recent Georgia 4-H Project Achievement competition at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton placed among the top three in their field, including a second-place finish by Autumn Holsey in Workforce Preparation and Career Development that qualified her to advance to State Congress.
4-H officials said Project Achievement empowers young people with skills for a lifetime, allowing them to explore their interests, unleash their creativity, share their work, and celebrate their achievements.
Nearly 400 4-Hers from throughout the Southwest District (41 counties) gathered at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton for the weekend event, to participate in a two-part competition, which involved submitting a portfolio in their project area and then doing an oral presentation or performing to a panel of judges.
Results from the event that included the four 4-H members from the Dougherty County 4-H Program included:
— A’liyha Haskins – 3rd place, Financial Planning and Consumer Economics
— Kanijah Holliday – 3rd place, Photography and Videography
— Autumn Holsey – 2nd place in Workforce Preparation and Career Development
Holsey will advance to State Congress, which will be held in Atlanta in July. As a State Congress delegate, she will be judged in interviewing and public speaking and will be vying for Master 4-H status and a trip to National 4-H Congress.
Graduating senior 4-Hers Haskins, Jalia Haskins and Holsey were honored at a special reception and were presented their Georgia 4-H Graduation Cords and History of Georgia 4-H books.
Dougherty County’s 4-Hers were accompanied by Dougherty County Extension 4-H Educator Rachel Knight, Dougherty County Extension Ag and Natural Resources Agent Vivek Bist, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent Anna Grace Peebles, and Dougherty County Interim County Extension Coordinator, Margaret Halbrook.
