ALBANY — A man robbed the First Bank of Albany at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, said an Albany Police Department official.

There were no injuries at the bank’s 2101 N. Slappey Blvd. location. It was not known if the robber had a weapon, said Steve Butler, Albany Police Department spokesman.

“A slender, black male wearing black clothes handed a note to a teller demanding money. He did not show a weapon,” Butler said. “The teller gave him an undisclosed amount of money and he ran west on Whispering Pines Road.”

It was not known if the thief had an accomplice waiting in a car on Whispering Pines Road, Butler said.

The robbery was caught on surveillance tape, Butler said. There were about five people in the bank at 5:30 p.m., including agents from the FBI, he added. The FBI becomes involved whenever a bank with insurance from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is robbed.

Two women leaving the bank in a hurry about 5:30 p.m. said they did not want to talk about the robbery.

The robbery remains under investigation and anyone with additional information should call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or (229) 431-3288.
