ATLANTA — Aaliyah Knight of Albany, a Georgia State University College of Law student, has been named a 2024 Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellow.
This fellowship is a cohort program with more than 150 law students working nationally in public interest law. The Stevens Fellowship pays homage to the late Justice Stevens and reflects his abiding belief that a dynamic and effective justice system depends on a deep bench of trained and committed lawyers doing public interest work.
The cohort from Georgia State included Knight, Jiovanny Dominguez and Aimee Lyons.
Each fellow received a stipend from the Stevens Foundation to support them financially while they worked an unpaid public interest law internship this summer.
“These students chose to work in unpaid positions without any promise of support, so it is great to be able to recognize their hard work and provide them with financial resources for the summer,” Alexandra Eichenbaum, deputy director for the Center for Access to Justice at Georgia State Law, said. “Beyond the award, the fellowship provides a network students can rely on beyond law school.”
“Georgia State University, one of the largest, most innovative multi-campus public research universities, transforms the lives of students, advances the frontiers of knowledge and strengthens the work force of the future,” a news release from the university said. “With campuses in and around metro Atlanta, Georgia State readies students for professional pursuits, educates future leaders and prepares citizens for lifelong learning. Enrolling one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, Georgia State prioritizes student success ensuring that students from all backgrounds graduate at high rates. The university provides outstanding experiential educational opportunities and exceptional support for students seeking degrees from the associate to the doctoral level.”
One of the nation’s fastest-growing research institutions, Georgia State’s scholarship and research focus on solving complex issues ranging from the most fundamental questions of the universe to the most challenging issues of our day, while the university’s creative activities expand and enrich the world.
