ALBANY, Ga. — Unloading a Glock 22-caliber pistol, 39-year-old Malika Norwood shot herself in the lower right leg before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3800 block of Dominion Court. She was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, according to an Albany Police Department report.
She was reported in good condition at 4:30 p.m. by a hospital spokeswoman.
Police reports emphasized that semi-automatic Glock pistol owners should remember that when the clip is removed, a bullet remains in the chamber ready to fire.
Albany police plan to offer a basic firearm safety course starting at 8 a.m. Nov. 3. Plans call for the course at the Law Enforcement Center’s Community Room to last eight hours. It will cover basic handgun safety, legal issues and handling skills needed to deploy a handgun for self-defense.
Limited seats are available for those 21 years or older. Police will conduct a background check on applicants. For questions on the course call (229) 483-6298.
