ALBANY — Drug agents arrested four men at the Dollar Inn on North Slappey Boulevard Tuesday, said Maj. Bill Berry with the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit.

Responding to complaints in addition to tips from known drug users, the agents observed activity in and around room 128 of the inn, Berry said, then obtained a search warrant and executed a raid around 9 p.m.

Three of the men — Matthew Cooper, 30, Jason Gary, 34, and Carl Grant, 25, — were inside the room when it was raided, Berry said. Agents found 20 to 25 pieces of of what was believed to be crack cocaine, as well as some “powder.” Berry said.

The men were all charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and a computer search revealed an outstanding warrant against Grant for probation violation also, Berry said.

Following the raid, the agents were approached by a young man with a soft drink cup in his hand, Berry said, who struck up a casual conversation. The man, later identified as Anthony Hood, 18, of Thomasville, appeared to be a little “high,” Berry said, and a search of his paper cup revealed “spice” or synthetic marijuana inside. Hood was taken into custody and charged with possession of spice, Berry said.

“He didn’t run or even try to get rid of his cup,” Berry said. “He does get the the rocket scientist award for the week.”
