Alarm Detection Technology merges with Invision Technologies

ALBANY — Two of Albany’s leading technology and security companies joined forces earlier this year when Alarm Detection Technology Inc. merged with Invision Technologies, LLC, to offer more a comprehensive suite of services to area clients under the Invision Technologies banner.
The new Invision will continue to offer information technology services such as cloud service, telephone services, email/website hosting, data backup and hardware sales, as well as wide range of security services, including fire alarm systems, simple access control, home audio/video systems, inexpensive surveillance systems, and now cost-effective home automation services through Atlantic District Telegraph alarm systems, that were previously offered by Alarm Detection Technology (ADT).
Alarm Detection Technology started in 1998 as an official Atlantic District Telegraph dealer providing various home and business alarm systems to South Georgia companies and residents, which principals at the new Invision Technologies feel are services that are complimentary to IT services.
According to ADT principal and now Invision Technologies partner Jay Carpenter, the merger was a good way to bring together two local companies to offer a total package of technology services under one umbrella without much overlap.
“It made a lot of sense for the companies to come together,” said Carpenter. “We both offered complimentary services that we can now market together to handle IT and security needs.”
Since starting in 2003, Invision has provided professional IT services to companies throughout South Georgia and has tried to continue expanding its services throughout that time.
The company took a big step in 2013 when it purchased Atlantic Tel-Com (ATC), which had been on the cutting edge of telephone systems from the original digital systems to modern day VoIP (voice over internet protocol) systems.
According to Invision founder and partner Jay Pollock, that merger made sense because Invision and ATC did not compete with each other and actually serviced a lot of the same customers for different needs.
“As I was doing IT services I kept running into ATC, which basically only handled telephone service,” said Pollock. “In my mind it made perfect sense to acquire that company.”
That same mindset also fueled Pollock’s interest in ADT, which provided a variety of services that were complimentary to those offered by Invision.
“For the most part we did everything but (what ADT was doing),” Pollock said. “If it was related to IT we were doing it. But we weren’t doing anything with fire or security services. We were kind of all around it.”
Much like what happened with ATC, Pollock kept hearing Carpenter’s name come up in conversation with clients and he came to the realization that merging with ADT would be a good fit.
Pollock said that while he was impressed with the reputation ADT seemed to have in the marketplace he was also impressed with Carpenter himself. Pollock said that joining forces with Carpenter has also helped from a marketing and public relations standpoint.
“Jay is a good business developer,” said Pollock. “Jay and ADT had a very good reputation.”
“We can now offer a wide range of services under one roof,” said Carpenter. “We’re basically a one stop shop, which is good for customers. Our mission is empowering communities through technology.”
