The weather’s warm and school’s nearly out, so summer camps can’t be far away.

To help parents and children make plans for summer activities, we’re asked area camps to send us information on their respective camps.

Because of the outstanding response from Albany area summer camp organizers, this list is being published over two days in the Sunday and Wednesday SouthView sections.

Camps are in Albany/Dougherty County unless otherwise noted.

ALBANY REC AND PARKS

The Albany Recreation & Parks Department has these day camps coming up.

Fit 2 Be Me (ages 7-16) is 9 a.m.-noon Mondays-Fridays from May 18 until July 31 at Carver Community Center at 1023 S. McKinley St. Healthy lifestyle camp includes arts & crafts, sports, fitness program, reading program, community gardening and guest speakers. ARPD Centers & Gyms Summer Program Mondays-Fridays May 18-July 31. Times: 9 a.m.-2 p.m., ages 7-14; 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m., ages 15-17. ALBANY STATE

Summer Transportation Institute, a nonresidential program funded by the Federal Highway Administration, and the Georgia Department of Transportation (for rising 9th- to 12th-graders with at least 2.7 GPA), is 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at ASU Criminal Justice Building. Black Youth and Entrepreneurship Workshop, targets high school students in Southwest Georgia area who are interested in small business ownership and management, is June 8-12. Application fee: $35, due by June 6. Workshop provides role model, cultural and recreational activities, microcomputer exercises, classroom sessions, a field trip, opportunity for each participant to experience residence life on a university campus and emphasizes personal development and career planning. Solar Camp: The Department of Natural & Forensic Sciences of Albany State University (ASU) will host a summer camp to expose middle and high school students to solar energy with sponsorship of Constellation Energy, an Exelon company. Camp weeks are Tuesdays-Fridays starting May 26 and ending June 26. Projects include soldering, parallel circuits, voltage and current measurement, parallel connection of solar cells, solar-powered car racing. Summer Learning Academy (ages 4-14) is 8 a.m.-noon Mondays-Fridays June 1-26 at the Billy Black Building at Albany State. Formerly the Kiddie College, the camp teaches advanced math and science concepts with a curriculum based on National teaching Standards using certified instructors. ALBANY YMCA

Camp KWD: Offered in conjunction with Phoebe Putney Diabetes Care Center for ages 8-13 who have diabetes, are at risk of developing diabetes, or have family history of diabetes. Camp is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays June 8-19 (early 7 a.m. drop-off and late pick-up until 6 p.m. available) at YMCA Central Facility. Activities include swimming, sports, games, arts & crafts, creative movement, movies, Turbo Kidz Workout, field day, family Zumba, information on weight management, preparing healthy meals and snacks, what to expect from diagnosis, building self-confidence, importance of exercise. Camp FIT, (ages 8-13) is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays June 8-19 (early drop-off and late pick-ups available) at YMCA Central Facility. Presented by YMCA and Phoebe Diabetes Care Center for kids who need to live a healthier lifestyle for weight management or to reduce the risk of developing disorders, such as diabetes. SuperKidz Triathlon Camp (ages 4-14) is 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 13-17 at the Albany YMCA Sports Park. Campers will train for the July 18 SuperKidz Triathlon. Camp fee (includes entry into the event): $70, YMCA members; $100, non-members. ALBANY MUSEUM OF ART

ARTapalooza (rising 1st-graders-rising 5th graders, must be 6 by Dec. 31) has six different camps for six weeks at the Albany Museum of Art, 311 Meadowlark Drive. Campers can attend full day (9 a.m.-4 p.m. with option after-camp care until 5 p.m.) or half-day (9 a.m.-noon or 1 p.m.-4 p.m.) Sessions are taught by professional art educators and lessons and activities complement the Georgia curriculum and Georgia performance standards. Sessions are also based on artworks on display in the Albany Museum of Art’s numerous galleries. BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS

Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany Summer Program begins Monday and ends July 10. The following units will be open for the summer program. Contact the units at the phone numbers listed or contact the administrative office at (229) 439-0196.

Swimming lessons: The clubs provide swimming lessons for beginners through advanced swimmers 9 a.m.-noon Mondays-Fridays at the Jefferson Street United. Lessons available to the public and those in the clubs’ summer programs. Pool is open to the public 1 p.m.-5 p.m. daily.

BYNE DAY CAMP

Byne Summer Day Camp is 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. May 18-Aug. 6. Camp limited to 150 campers. Cost: $50 registration fee, non-refundable; $100 weekly fee, first camper; $105 weekly fee, second camper; $90 weekly fee, third camper; fourth camper free; late pickup fee, $5 plus $1 per minute after 6 p.m. Byne Christian School is located at 2832 Ledo Road. CAMP CHEHAW

A week long, overnight camp for ages 8-14 has drop-off on Sunday, pickup Saturday at Chehaw Park. Campers participate in outdoor activities, including canoeing, archery, nature hikes, survival skills, and sleep in tepees at night. Campers make behind the scenes trips into the Chehaw Zoo. Cost: $625.

Dates for Camp Chehaw are Session 1, June 7-13; Session 2, June 14-20; Session 3, June 21-27; Session 4, July 5-11; Session 5, July 12-18, and Session 6: July 19-24.

CHEHAW DAY CAMPS

Each day of camp includes a trip to the zoo, animal encounters, crafts, games, activities, a snack, and a camp T-shirt. Lunch can be purchased from Chehaw. After Camp Care is available until 5:30 p.m. for $10/day or $40/week. Register at www.chehaw.org or contact the Education Department at (229) 430-3012.

— Winging It: Campers learn about 15 different species of birds at Chehaw and native birds, as well as their behaviors and habitats. Camps are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and cost $130. Two camp weeks: June 1-5 and July 20-24.

— Continental Creatures (ages 5-12) has campers visiting a a different continent and discover the critters who call it home. Camps are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 26-29, cost: $110, and July 6-10, cost: $130.

— Night Crawlers (ages 5-12) are 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Campers learn about nocturnal creatures and includes special zoo dinner and optional overnighter. Camps are June 29-July 3 and July 20-24. Cost: $120.

— Reptile Camp: Campers learn about reptiles from around the world. Camps are 1 p.m.-4 p.m. June 8-12, ages 4-7, cost: $80; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., June 22-26, ages 5-12, cost: $130; 9 a.m.-noon, July 27-31, ages 4-7, cost: $80.

— Jumanji Camp Campers ages 8-12 play a survival game as they explore jungles and their animal inhabitants. Includes a canoe trip down the Muckalee Creek, through a little Georgia Jungle, camping under the stars at the Swamp House, and watching “Jumanji” on the big screen. Each week of camp costs $160, including overnighter. Camps are June 8-12 and July 27-31.

— H Zoo O (ages 5-12) is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 15-19. Campers get a chance to get wet while learning about animals that live in and around water.

— Zookeepers 101: Campers get behind-the-scenes education on working in a zoo. Camps are 9 a.m.-noon June 8-12 for ages 4-7, cost: $80; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 29-July 3, ages 5-12, cost: $110; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., July 13-17, cost: $130; 1 p.m.-4 p.m., July 27-31, cost: $80.

CAMP DOOLY

Camp Dooly, a Northwest District, United Methodist Church camp, (boys and girls rising 3rd graders through 5th graders) is 9 a.m. June 18 through noon June 21 at Dooly Campground, 21 Parsonage Road, Vienna. Campers will have arts, crafts, music, Bible study, worship, recreation (swimming, volleyball, softball) and times of spiritual growth. CAMPS FOR CHAMPS

Lea Henry’s 2015 Girls & Boys Basketball Camp of Champs are 9 a.m.-noon for ages 5-6, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. ages 7-18. Costs are $100, ages 5-6; $150, ages 7-18. Camp dates are:

— July 7-10, Deerfield-Windsor School.

CAMP IGKNIGHT

Camp IgKnight (rising 1st graders through 5th graders) is 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. with two sessions, June 22-26 and July 13-17, at Deerfield-Windsor Lower School Campus, 1733 Beattie Road. Campers do not have to be current DWS students to attend. Early drop off and late pick up available. Campers may register for one or both sessions. Campers should bring lunch each day (snacks provided) and a towel on pool day. Activities include daily field trips, science labs, arts and crafts, games and team-building activities. CAMP INVENTION

Camp Invention (rising 1st graders through 6th graders) is June 1-5 at Lee County Elementary School in Leesburg. Supported by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office and the National Inventors Hall of Fame, this year’s curriculum, titled “Illuminate,” will encourage campers to explore their inventiveness in the Design Studio:Illuminate module, investigating circuits and taking on a nature-inspired challenge. CAMP WIREGRASS

Camp Wiregrass at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton allows children ages 4-11 to explore southern Georgia’s rich history and natural resources through hands-on activities, games and crafts. Week-long sessions in June are 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted below and fee includes a snack, a t-shirt, programming, supplies and afternoon water games. Campers bring sack lunches. Week-long camps cost $100 per camper.

— Munchkin camp (ages 4-5) is 8:30- a.m.-noon May 26-29. Camp activities will include fishing, bug exploration, and watering farm animals. The cost camp: $55.

— Native American Explorers (ages 6-8) is June 8-12. Campers learn primitive hunting skills, games designed to keep tribal peace, and life skills, including gardening and pottery.

— Animal Adaptations (ages 6-8) is June 22-26. Campers learn about various habitats; explore the adaptations of fish, mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects; study birds; go fishing, and meet the animals of the museum.

— Wildlife Adventures (ages 9-11) is June 23-27. Campers learn research techniques used by wildlife biologists, telemetry, non-lethal trapping, and skull/pelt/track identification.

— Victorian Adventures (Girls ages 8-11) is June 15-19. Campers explore high society and working-class lifestyles of women in the 1800s. Activities include hosting a tea, cooking a traditional meal, and playing traditional games.

Camp Wiregrass Workshops, for various age groups, cost $30 per person unless otherwise noted below. Fee includes snacks and supplies.

— Printers Workshop (ages 9-11) is 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 30. Participants create prints and explore the museum print shop.

— The Revolution is Coming (ages 8-10) is 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 2 in celebration of Independence Day. Participants join the museum’s militia.

— One Room School (ages 6-8) is 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 7. Participants typical day in a one-room schoolhouse.

— Sew a Friend is a two-day workshop 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 9-10. Participants create a doll. Cost: $55.

— Amazing Race Georgia Historic Style (ages 8-10) is 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 14. Scavenger hunts though late 1800s-early 1900s.

— Games and Traditional Toys is 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 16. Participants learn games before TV/video era and create an old-fashioned toy to take home.

CARAVAN YOUTH CAMP

Caravan Youth Camps, a Vienna United Methodist Church camp for youth rising 6th grade through 12th grade, is 9 a.m. July 12 through noon July 17 at Dooly Campground, 21 Parsonage Road, Vienna. Campers will have games and recreation (swimming, volleyball, softball); arts and crafts; music; worship and time for spiritual growth with a summer ministry team from the Auburn University Wesley Foundation. CHRISTIAN CAMP

One Village Summer Camp Project is 6 a.m.-6 p.m. May 25-July 24 at Rehoboth Bible Church, 714 W. Broad Ave., and VFW Post 2785, 315 Philema Road. Registration at either site each Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and each Sunday 2 p.m.-6 p.m. Cost: $65 per week with one-time $45 registration fee. DARTON SPORTS

Darton State College has these sports camps scheduled.

Athletic Performance Clinics (ages 12-15) are 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays June 1-18 and June 29-July 16 at the Darton Physical Education Fitness Center. Campers enhance peak physical performance, learn major muscle groups, learn technique, get SAQ training, get nutritional information, gain understanding of sports psychology and apply strength and conditioning programs. Baseball Camp (ages 5-12) is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (extended day 1 p.m.-5 p.m.) Mondays-Fridays June 8-12 and 15-19. Individual instruction of pitching, hitting, fielding and team play taught by collegiate players. Campers receive T-shirts and should bring lunch, glove, cap, bat, helmet and long pants. Basketball Camp (ages 6-18) is 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 13-16 at Cavalier Arena. Lady Cavaliers head coach Lea Henry and former University of Maryland player Greg Manning conduct the camp focusing on skill instruction development for position breakdown, shooting, ball-handling, footwork, individual and team defense, 5-on-5 play. Cross Country Camp is 7 a.m.-noon June 8-12 starting and ending at Darton’s Tennis Pavilion. Fundamentals of cross-country running, daily activities, games and beginner fun runs. Girls Basketball Team Camp is June 12-13 at Cavalier Arena. Lady Cavaliers Lea Henry conducts Camp of Champs for up to 30 teams, with teams guaranteed three games per day with certified officials. Cost: $350 per team, $100 deposit required by May 15. Contact Lea Henry, (404) 556-2302.

Soccer Camp (ages 5-12) is 9 a.m.-noon (drop-off available at 8:30 a.m.) June 15-18. Technical and functional training for basic skills and position play by Darton coaches and players. Swimming Camp (ages 5-18) has sessions 8 a.m.-noon June 8-11, 22-25, June 29-July 2, and July 13-16 at Darton P.E. Building. Drop-off available at 7:45 a.m. and pickup until 12:15 p.m. Campers taught four competitive strokes, starts and turns by Darton coaches and swimmers and collegiate all-Americans. Tennis Camp (ages 6-17) is 12:30 p.m. 3 p.m. June 2-4 at Darton Tennis Pavilion. Campers taught basics and get individual instruction on fundamentals of forehands, backhands and serving, along with information on scoring, etiquette, terminology and matches. DRAMA CAMP

King’s Kids Production Company in partnership with Sherwood Christian Academy is conducting a drama camp, which is designed to give students a positive theater experience in a Christ-centered environment. Auditions for the camps will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 2, 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. May and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 9 at Sherwood Christian Academy, 2200 Stuart Ave. If unable to attend, call for a makeup audition. Cost of each camp is $140, with non-refundable $35 deposit.

The Aristocats Kids (rising K-5 through 5th grade) is 1 p.m.-4 p.m. June 15-19 at Sherwood Baptist Church.

Annie Jr. (rising 1st graders through 9th grade) is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 22-26 at Sherwood Baptist Church.

EQUESTRIAN CAMPS

Stonehaven Stables Summer Camp (ages 6 and older) has weekly sessions 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (early drop-offs permitted) starting May 25 at Stonehaven Stables, 2816 Palmyra Road, Lee County. Campers learn to groom and saddle horses and ponies, they ride every day. Games, arts and crafts, some swimming. Bring lunch and wear sturdy shoes with a heal. Protective headgear is required; Stonehaven has helmets for sharing or camper can bring helmet. Instructor Carol Rathel, with more than 50 years experience working with horses and children. Summer Horseback Riding Camp is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays June 2- Aug. 13 at Rockin N Stables, 5188 Mount Olive Road, Pelham. Each Camper assigned a horse for the day and a camp counselor and will teach proper horsemanship, how to care for and groom horse, nutrition, first aid and proper riding technique. FAR HORIZONS

Far Horizons Montessori School’s summer camps (ages 2-9) include crafts, music, dance, cooking, picnics, water play and Friday catered pizza. GAIL BALE’S ART CAMP

Gail Bale’s Summer 2015 Teen Art Camp (ages 13-18) has two sessions, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 8-12 and June 15-19 at the Carnegie Library, 215 N. Jackson St. Albany Area Arts Council’s first teen art camp to provide in-depth instruction and training in a variety of disciplines from professional artists through practice, lectures, projects and collaborative instruction. Students will explore a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Walking excursion to the Art Park on Pine at the end of each session. Kit of art supplies included, and campers will take their remaining supplies and their artwork home at end of week. Campers should bring lunch. Each session limited to 25. Instructor is Meredith Lear-Perkins, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design and a professor of fine art at Albany State University. THRONATEESKA/RIVERQUARIUM

“Ed-venture” camps will be held at the Flint RiverQuarium and Thronateeska Heritage Center. Each week campers will submerge themselves in aquatic fun, exploration and hands-on opportunities.

A typical camp session includes crafts, games, exhibit tours, animal encounters, planetarium shows, movies in the Imagination Theater, snacks, “Splish Splash Water Bash,” T-shirt and full entrance into the Flint RiverQuarium and Thronateeska Heritage Center each day.

Campers learn about different types of crime scene techniques, search for hidden treasures and artifacts at exclusive “dig site,” discover some of the largest creatures to roam the earth, dinosaurs, and find out what makes them tick using clues from the past.

Mad Scientist Camp (7-11 year olds) is June 1-5, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost: members, $130; nonmembers, $140. Bring a sack lunch. Campers discover science secrets through experiments, innovative projects, outdoor games and animal encounters. Campers discover the world of science and meet some of favorite RiverQuarium residents, from the big-toothed alligator to a playful blue jay.

Survival Camp, (7-11 year olds) is June 29-July 3, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost: members, $130; nonmembers, $140. Bring a sack lunch. The Survivor Team gets up-close with snakes, alligators, stingrays and even sharks. Campers learn what it takes for creatures to survive in the wild.
