ALBANY — The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce has begun its search for this year’s Non-profit of the Year and will be accepting applications until Friday.

The Non-profit of the Year is one the Chamber’s more prestigious awards, given each year during the organization’s annual dinner, which this year will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Albany.

According to the Chamber’s Executive Director Chris Hardy, the Non-profit of the Year award allows the chamber community to recognize an important sector of the area’s business community.

“This award is a way for us to recognize the important non-profits that have a positive impact on our community,” said Hardy. “Non-profits serve specific needs in the community that help make things better for a lot of people. We have many non-profits in Albany doing superior work.”

For a non-profit to be chosen as this year’s winner that organization is asked to complete a nomination form that can be found on the Chamber’s website albanyga.com. That nomination has to be submitted before Friday and then the nominees will have until Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, to provide a list of information that includes: the organization’s mission statement; a synopsis of its local impact; the number and types of services offered by the organization; evidence of organizational growth; the number of people served by the organization; and the non-profit’s involvement with the Chamber.

Past winners of the award include the 2014 Non-profit of the Year, the Junior League of Albany, and the 2013 recipient the Liberty House.

Anyone wanting more information about the award and the application process should contact Cassandra Mathis at [email protected] or Mary Bickerstaff at [email protected].
