ALBANY — In an effort to recognize Albany and Dougherty County’s leading industries, the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an Industry Celebration Rise N Shine Breakfast sponsored by the Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission as part of that organization’s annual Industry Week.
At the breakfast, scheduled for April 15 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Front Street in downtown Albany, EDC leaders will present annual Industry Awards to local businesses in four categories: Economic Impact, Excellence in Innovation, Global Commerce and Corporate Community Citizen (Good Life City Award).
“The EDC’s annual awards is one way in which we honor our existing industries,” said EDC Vice President Barbara Rivera Holmes. “This allows us to really promote our industries and the phenomenal things they doing and celebrate their successes.”
The winners of this year’s award were chosen by a selection committee of EDC members and volunteers and were drawn from a pool of nominations the commission received from the community.
Tickets to the breakfast, which will begin with networking and coffee at 7:30 a.m., are $20 for chamber members and $30 for non-members. There is an additional $5 for any tickets purchased after Wednesday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.albanyga.com or by emailing [email protected]. Reservations can be made by calling (229) 434-8716.
The Industry Rise N Shine is part of the EDC’s Industry Celebration Week, which runs April 11-17. The organization hosts a community-wide celebration of all of the community’s existing industries.
“Industry Celebration allows us recognize the success and importance of our existing industries, which are vital to the community,” said Holmes. “We recognize their contributions all the time, but this is a great way to promote what they are doing. And it’s a great way to build pride in the community.”
In addition to the breakfast, the commission is sponsoring a variety of events throughout the week, including a Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on April 16 at Doublegate Country Club.
Holmes said the two events allow members of the community and leaders from each company to get to know one another and to build and strengthen important business relationships.
“It’s an opportunity for business leaders to get out of their plants and places of business and network and build relationships with their counterparts in the community,” said Holmes.
The Business After Hours is open to all chamber members free of charge and begins at 5 p.m.
